How does our club operate?
St George Swim Club is run entirely by volunteers, including our committee. Most volunteers are parents or grandparents of swimmers in the club, as well as a few extra special members who still volunteer many years after their children finished swimming (and are adults now). As the saying goes “many hands make light work” and this is very much the case at our club. We always welcome and encourage all of the members families to participate, and there is wide range of ways to help out. Some ways to help are by timekeeping, helping with the bbq, assisting with set up and pack down, participating on the committee, helping with fundraising, assisting with social media, and a myriad of other tasks. We find that parents and carers feel more involved and generally enjoy the experience more once they become involved in the various activities of the club. If you feel a bit shy, don’t worry – we’re a very friendly group!
Where do our membership fees go?
When you pay your membership fee (paid once per year), a proportion goes to Swimming Australia, Swimming NSW, & our regional area MetSEA. A very small proportion goes to St George Swim Club. We will provide a breakdown to our members when membership is due for renewal and also post this on our website.
What is our membership and fundraising money used for?
Monies raised for the club are used to pay for: presentation night (for trophies and medals, remainder of catering costs, decorations etc), equipment for the club, Christmas gifts for the swimmers, costs associated with club nights, and other expenses associated with the club.
What is the connection with Off The Blocks Swimming Academy and also Bluefit?
All training for our squad level swimmers from Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Gold National levels is provided by Off The Blocks Swimming Academy. Training for squad swimmers from Mini Squad, Squad Development, and Learn To Swim is provided by Bluefit. We work very closely as a club with Off The Blocks Swimming Academy, particularly with the director and head coach Robby Cox (who is also the host of Off The Blocks Swimming Podcast), as well as with their other coaches Helena and Minh, who attend our club night to work on racing development with our members, as well as attending all targeted meets and other St George Swim Club events. It is a true collaboration between St George & Off The Blocks, with Robby and Helena involved in the planning of club events and coordination of targeted events. Bluefit Mini Squad coaches Pamela and Jamny often attend club nights and targeted events as well.
