How does our club operate?
St George Swim Club is proudly run entirely by volunteers, including our committee. Most volunteers are parents or grandparents of swimmers, along with a few dedicated members who continue to give back long after their children have grown up.
As the saying goes: “Many hands make light work.” This is especially true for us. We warmly encourage families to get involved, and there are plenty of ways to contribute—timekeeping, BBQ duty, setup and pack-down, committee roles, fundraising, social media support, and much more.
Getting involved not only helps the club run smoothly—it also makes the experience more enjoyable and rewarding for families. And if you’re a little shy, don’t worry… we’re an incredibly friendly group!
Where do our membership fees go?
Your annual membership fee is shared across several organisations to support competitive swimming in Australia:
- Swimming Australia
- Swimming NSW
- Our regional area, MetSEA
- A small portion is retained by St George Swim Club
A full breakdown is provided to members at renewal time in September/October.
What is our membership and fundraising money used for?
Funds raised by the club directly support our swimmers and community. This includes:
- Presentation night trophies, medals, and remaining catering costs
- Resources that help our junior swimmers develop
- Club equipment
- Christmas gifts for swimmers
- Club night expenses
- Other operational and event-related costs
Every dollar raised goes back into creating a positive, well-resourced experience for our swimmers.
What is the connection with Off The Blocks Swimming Academy and also Bayside Council?
Training for our Junior and Senior Bronze, Silver, and Gold squad swimmers is provided by Off The Blocks Swimming Academy. Learn-to-Swim programs are delivered by Bayside Council at Bexley.
We have a close, ongoing partnership with Off The Blocks, working directly with:
- Robby Cox – Director of OTB Academy and host of Off The Blocks Swimming Podcast
- Lachlan Vane-Tempest – Head Coach
- Helena Miao – Assistant Head Coach
- Their team of junior coaches
These coaches attend our club nights to support racing development, as well as all targeted meets and major club events. It’s a genuine, collaborative relationship, with Robby, Lachlan, and Helena involved in event planning and coordinating our targeted racing calendar.
